Eli smirked with a satisfied expression on his face, nodding at what he assumed was a rhetorical question. His features softened as she went on to continue, now falling into a rather lovesick look, one Adam often called him out on when Eli would read a text from Clare or if she was simply brought up in casual conversation. Her eyes seemed to shine as he looked into them, wondering how he hadn’t melted at her every word. He tried to conjure up some sort of smug response, but found himself at a complete loss, not really wanting to speak, just wanting to close the little gap of space between them and press his lips against hers with no second thought. His gaze shifted from her bright eyes to her irresistible lips, clearing his throat nervously before answering her question with confidence. “Yeah, it must have been the editing skills that made me fall in love with you.” He started, his voice getting softer as he trailed off. “-or maybe it was your smile, or your eyes.” He continued, bringing his hand closer to her face, his fingertips tracing over her lips as he spoke. “It could have been your voice, or your laugh.” Eli continued to add, his fingertips now trailing down her jawline. “Or how, you’re the only person that I could ever imagine spending every moment of the rest of my life with.” His fingertips made their way to her cheek, a grin spreading across his own lips as he touched her porcelain skin. “-It could have been your blush, or your kindness, or your ability to make me smile like an idiot.” He chuckled softly, every word spilling from his lips being complete honesty. “Perhaps it was the fact that you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid eyes on.” He finished, his fingertips moving just below her chin, as he moved in closer to press his lips against hers in a kiss that took his very breath away. Unsure of how Clare might have felt about his action, he pulled away slowly, moving his arm back around her waist and resting his forehead against hers, their cool breath mixing in between them.
Clare could only imagine the love stricken grin that had found its way onto her face as Eli talked. His words were soft spoken, yet sweet and with each sentence that spilled from his perfect lips she could feel heartbeat pick up speed as her stomach flip flopped. His fingertips ghosted gently over her lips making her breath hitch in the back of her throat, her body on edge as she waited anxiously for his next move. Letting her eyes flutter shut she savored the feeling of his fingertips gliding effortlessly down to her jawline. His touch was feather light and it reminded her of all the times he had let his lips place butterfly kisses along the same porcelain skin. His fingertips never stayed long and just as she had gotten used to the feeling of his touch on her jawline he had once again moved on, this time to the flushed skin of her cheek. While his touch was full of love and care it still had a way of making her body feel like it was on fire and his fingertips felt like he was leaving a trail a mile long. Finding it hard to concentrate on his words Clare let out a soft content sigh as his fingertips moved to rest gently underneath her chin. And though she shouldn’t have been surprised when his lips dipped down and pressed firmly against hers she still was. The passion and love that spilled over from his lips and into their kiss was enough to make her head grow dizzy and her body grow weak. Sliding her hand from his cheek to the back of his neck she gently threaded her fingers through his dark locks before shyly moving her lips in synch with his. Though they had done this countless times before in the past their kiss tonight felt more raw and meaningful in a way. It was the first time their lips had touched since their fight, since their makeup, since he had so openly explained all the reasons he had fallen in love with her. It was a kiss that spoke a thousand unspoken words between the two. It was a kiss that signified that everything was going to be okay with them, that everything that had happened that night was forgiven. As his lips pulled apart from hers Clare found it hard to form a coherent thought yet alone verbally respond to what had just taken place. Keeping her blue eyes closed she basked in the sweet afterglow, their cool breaths mixed together sending shivers down her arms. “Wow,” she murmured. Tilting her head upwards a few inches Clare captured his lips in a sweet and lingering kiss before regretfully pulling back. Letting her lips ghost over his almost teasingly she whispered softly, “I love you, Eli.”
A lazy smile cast over his lips as she rested her head on his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist, and holding her...
